Fathers Day

The Goldenberg Family

It’s been almost three years since I lost my father.

Life became rather interesting and complicated for a short time after he was gone. We were a family without our patriarch. We were a ship without the captain. We we a little lost.

We eventually found our way, but it was because of the lessons we learned from our father. It was because our father had steered us straight so many times that what we needed to do was ingrained in our minds. We had to take care of each other, love each other, and be there for each other.

The Goldenberg Family

This year was the first year that I was wished a happy fathers day. I responded that right now I am just a dad. In my mind a father is someone who loves and nurtures a child as my father did with me. A father is a man who supports his children, and steers them in the right direction when they get off course. A father is someone who is there to talk to no matter what is going on.

My father was a great man, and if I am even half of the father he was, I will be proud. My father did everything in his power for us. He made sure that we had everything we wanted and needed in life, and seldom asked for anything more in return aside from being a good kid.

I love and miss my father every day. But he and everything he has taught me in my life is sealed in my heart and will never be gone.

Happy fathers day to all of the real fathers out there.
