Thoughts on the Apple Watch

13 Jul

This past Friday I made an appointment at my local Apple Store to go and try on the Apple Watch Sport. Quite honestly I thought the Apple Watch would be much to big for me to wear comfortably while I work but once the sales rep put it on my wrist, it never left. I thought I would post a mini, three day usage review, to give you my thoughts on this particular device.

The Purchase Experience

Buying anything at an Apple store is just so simple. You can make an appointment online or even just walk in. I prefer to make an appointment personally because generally the Apple store I go to is quite busy. The staff are super friendly and helpful and really can answer just about any question you throw at them. I asked a couple of general noob questions, and was satisfied with the answers. I paid for my purchase and took my new toy home.

Getting it home

Once I had the watch home, it was time to power it up and play with my new toy. My watch in particular had an 80% charge on it out of the box. I decided not to charge it any further and just get it up and running.

Pairing the Apple Watch

Pairing the Apple watch was super simple. When you boot up the Apple Watch there are a few screens it goes through and then it simply displays a neat space looking image that you point your iPhone camera at and poof! They’re paired.

Battery life

This is one thing that is definitely less than spectacular at least I’ve found. I’m a very moderate user. Several emails and texts every couple of hours or so and while the battery technically would last me a full couple of days, the Pebble Time would go a full week with the same usage. Now I know this is not a Pebble Time and I cannot expect the same kind of battery life, but I would love if this watch could last a little longer, although I still haven’t tried the battery saver mode which from what I understand can extend the life of the Apple Watch rather significantly by killing off unnecessary processes that drain battery.

Overall first impresssion / tldr

I really like the watch so far! It’s pretty comfortable, it works as advertised, but the battery life could be better.
